gardening ideas for home

Block planting may be an option for gardeners who have too many mismatched pots. Block planting not only saves money, but also produces healthier seedlings. Here are a few tips for successful block planting. Water your blocks as often as necessary to prevent rot. To start, add a few drops of water to each block. Once they have germinated water each block once a week. If you can't stand the smell of water, try adding a teaspoon of cinnamon to your potting mix.

Soil blocks can be used to replace plastic cell packs and peat pots. These blocks are both containers and soil. Roots can grow stronger and quicker by distributing oxygen better. Block planting encourages roots to be pruned at the block edges. This reduces root winding in a plastic container. This allows for faster transplant establishment. A block planting recipe typically contains a mix of lime, peat, coarse sand, fertilizer, and soil.

Pots may be a better option for soil blocks. Although a pot helps keep soil blocks moist, they don't hold as much moisture. Instead, use a mist sprayer to keep the soil evenly moist. The best way to keep water in the blocks is with a plastic wrap or clamshell container. You should water the blocks from their bottom to ensure they don't dry out.

Block planting is a great method to establish a new border. You can plant as many seeds you want and watch the germination process. You can keep track of how the seedlings grow as you see them. You should trim the excess seeds once they reach about half an inch in height. This will allow you to identify the strongest. Next, examine the sprouting leaves carefully and choose the strongest.

Block planting begins with choosing the right soil. Peat moss can be planted in containers with many soil types. For a border made with blocks, you have the option of using concrete blocks or bricks. This allows you to create an original design. These blocks can be used as borders and are simple to construct. You can even use them to make flower beds. They will make a perfect garden in no time.

How To

Use organic fertilizers in your garden

Organic fertilizers are made from natural substances such as manure, compost, fish emulsion, seaweed extract, guano, and blood meal. Non-synthetic materials are used in the production of organic fertilizers. Synthetic fertilizers can be used in industrial processes. These fertilizers are commonly used in agriculture, as they can provide nutrients to plants quickly without the need for complicated preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers pose risks to human health and the environment. Synthetic fertilizers require large amounts of energy as well as water to be produced. Many synthetic fertilizers are also harmful to groundwater and water surface because of runoff. This is a problem for wildlife and humans alike.

There are several types of organic fertilizers:

* Manure - produced when livestock eat food containing nitrogen (a plant nutrient). It contains bacteria and enzymes that break down the waste into simple compounds that plants can absorb easily.

* Compost is a mixture from vegetable scraps, grass clippings and decaying leaves. It is high in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium as well as calcium, magnesium, sulfur. It is extremely porous and holds water well.

* Fish Emulsion – A liquid product derived from fish oils. It dissolves fats and oils in a similar way to soap. It has trace elements such as phosphorous, nitrogen and nitrate.

* Seaweed Extract – A concentrated solution containing minerals extracted from kelp. It provides a source of vitamins A and C, iodine, and iron.

* Guano, excrement taken from amphibians, bats, reptiles and seabirds. It contains nitrogen, sulfur, chloride and carbon.

* Blood Meal: The remains of animal carcasses. It contains protein, which makes it useful for feeding poultry and other animals. It also contains phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen, and trace minerals.

Mix equal amounts of compost, manure, and/or fish oil to make organic fertilizer. Mix well. If you don't have all three ingredients, you can substitute them one for another. If you have only access to the fish oil emulsion, then you can combine 1 part fish emulsion and 2 parts compost.

To apply the fertilizer, spread it evenly over the soil using a shovel or tiller. About a quarter of a cup of the fertilizer is needed per square foot. You will need more fertilizer to see signs and growth every two weeks.
