FAQ

How much light does a tree need?

It depends on the plant. Some plants need 12 hours of direct sun per day. Others prefer 8 hours in indirect sunlight. Most vegetables need 10 hours of direct sunlight per 24-hour period.

What is the best vegetable garden layout?

It is important to consider where you live when planning your vegetable garden. For easy harvesting, it is best to plant vegetables in the same area as your home. If you live in a rural location, you will need to space your plants out for maximum yield.

Which type of lighting is best for indoor plants?

Because they emit less heat than traditional incandescent bulbs, Florescent lights are ideal for indoor plant growth. They can also provide steady lighting without flickering and dimming. You can find regular or compact fluorescent fluorescent bulbs. CFLs can use up to 75% more energy than traditional bulbs.

What is the best way to determine what kind of soil I have?

The color of the soil can tell you how much organic matter it contains. More organic matter is found in darker soils than in lighter soils. Soil testing is another option. These tests measure the number of nutrients present in the soil.

What equipment do I need to grow vegetables?

Not really. All you need is a shovel, trowel, watering can, and maybe a rake.

What is the maximum time I can keep an indoor plant alive for?

Indoor plants can survive up to ten years. To promote new growth, it is essential to repot your indoor plants every few month. Repotting is simple. Just remove the old soil, and then add fresh compost.

How do I prepare the soil for a garden?

Preparing soil is simple for a vegetable garden. First, you should remove all weeds around the area where you want to plant vegetables. Add organic matter such as leaves, composted manure or grass clippings, straw, wood chips, and then water. Water well, and wait for the plants to sprout.

How To

Use organic fertilizers in your garden

Organic fertilizers include manure (compost), fish emulsions, seaweed extracts, blood meal, and compost. The term "organic" means that they are produced using non-synthetic material. Synthetic fertilizers contain chemicals used in industrial processes. They are widely used in agriculture because they provide nutrients to plants quickly and efficiently without requiring laborious preparation methods. However, synthetic fertilizers pose risks to human health and the environment. In addition, they require large amounts of energy and water to produce. Synthetic fertilizers also pollute surface and groundwater through runoff. This is a problem for wildlife and humans alike.

There are many organic fertilizers available:

* Manure is produced when livestock eat nitrogen-rich foods (a plant nutrient). It's made of bacteria and enzymes which break down the waste to simple compounds that can be taken by plants.

* Compost is a mixture of vegetable scraps and grass clippings, animal manure, and decaying leaves. It is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, iron, zinc, copper, manganese, boron, molybdenum, chlorine, and carbon. It is highly porous so it can retain moisture well and release nutrients slowly.

* Fish Emulsion: A liquid product derived primarily from fish oil. It is similar to soap in its ability to dissolve oils and fats. It contains trace elements and phosphorous as well as nitrogen and nitrogen.

* Seaweed Extract - a concentrated solution of minerals extracted from kelp, red algae, brown algae, and green algae. It provides a source of vitamins A and C, iodine, and iron.

* Guano - Excreta from amphibians and seabirds. It contains nitrogen, sulfur, chloride and carbon.

* Blood Meal - the remains of slaughtered animals. It is high in protein, making it suitable for feeding poultry and other livestock. It also contains trace minerals, phosphorus and potassium.

Mix equal amounts of compost, manure, and/or fish oil to make organic fertilizer. Mix well. If you don’t have access, you can mix one ingredient with the other. If you have only access to the fish oil emulsion, then you can combine 1 part fish emulsion and 2 parts compost.

To apply the fertilizer, spread it evenly over the soil using a shovel or tiller. You should spread about one quarter cup of the fertilizer per square foot. To see new growth, you will need to apply more fertilizer every 2 weeks.
