If you are planning to plant your own vegetables, you may wonder how to go about it. There are many different ways to grow vegetables. Here are some tips to help you get started. These are some helpful tips to get you started.

Planting seeds early

Given the cold winter conditions, you can plant vegetable gardens in the spring. However, it is best to avoid planting too soon. Planting vegetables in the spring or late winter can lead to fewer harvests. It's a good idea also to use a board to record the planting dates. A poster board can also be used to keep track of important dates such as when to transplant your vegetables and when to harvest them. Depending on the time of year, you might want to plant some vegetables earlier than others.

Complementary plants

Companion plants are a great way to help your vegetables. Tall plants can act as a trellis for sprawling, low-growing plants. Additionally, plants placed close together will benefit their health. Because they have less competition for nutrients, plants will grow closer together. The nutrients plants draw from one other will enhance the flavor and taste of the plants. Planting vegetables in a block

Block planting vegetables helps to maximize nutrient intake and reduce weed growth. The plants can be planted very close together, so there's no need to space them apart. Their roots also shade one another and create a weed-resistant root network. Block planting can be very effective for intensive gardening. However, it can also work well for square foot gardening. This allows for multiple plantings of the same vegetables by creating a grid with one-foot squares.

Picking the right spot

Choose a location that is convenient to your vegetable garden. After all, no one wants to walk 20 feet to water their garden. The ideal location is one that is convenient to the house and easy to reach. Adding a patio to the garden location will also make it more convenient and functional. Most people will not have this problem. Here are some tips on where to place your vegetable garden. How To

Organic fertilizers for your garden

Organic fertilizers can be made from natural substances, such as compost, manure and seaweed extract. The term organic refers to the use of non-synthetic materials for their production. Synthetic fertilizers can be used in industrial processes. They are often used in agriculture since they provide nutrients to plants efficiently and quickly, without the need of complicated preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers present risks to both the environment- and human health. Synthetic fertilizers require large amounts of energy as well as water to be produced. Moreover, many synthetic fertilizers pollute groundwater and surface waters due to runoff. This pollution is both harmful to wildlife as well as humans.

There are several kinds of organic fertilisers:

* Manure is a product of livestock eating nitrogen-rich food (a plant nutrient). It is made up of bacteria and enzymes, which break down the waste into simpler compounds that can be absorbed easily by plants.

* Compost is a mixture of vegetable scraps and grass clippings, animal manure, and decaying leaves. It is rich for nitrogen, carbon, potassium and magnesium. It is highly porous, so it holds moisture well and releases nutrients slowly.

* Fish Emulsion – A liquid product derived from fish oils. It dissolves fats and oils in a similar way to soap. It has trace elements such as phosphorous, nitrogen and nitrate.

* Seaweed extract - A concentrated solution of minerals from kelp and red algae. It's a great source of vitamins A and C as well as iodine and iron.

* Guano is excrement from amphibians, seabirds, bats and reptiles. It contains nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfate, chloride, and carbon.

* Blood Meal - The remains of animals slaughtered. It is rich with protein, making it useful for feeding poultry or other animals. It also contains phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen, and trace minerals.

Combine equal parts of compost, manure and/or fish-emulsion to make organic fertilizer. Mix thoroughly. If you don’t possess all three ingredients you can substitute one for the other. You can mix one part of the fish emulsion with two portions of compost if you don't have enough.

Apply the fertilizer to the soil by using a shovel and tiller. Spread about a quarter cup of the mixture per square foot of growing space. To see signs of new growth, you'll need more fertilizer each two weeks.
